Performance Issues with CC2500EMK

July 15th, 2010

I have a CC2500EMK (old design:Chipcon 1.0) the firmware runs perfectly well when this emk is attached with the module(performace is good) but when attach my own emk using the new CC2500EMK 062 reference design from the ti user guide the performace is really is causing concern with high PER.

Do RF modules eliminate the need for RF Engineers?

June 29th, 2010

Are radio modules a good or bad thing for RF engineers?

Is designing a radio today as easy as plopping down an RF module onto a board and expecting it to work, assume it will pass FCC testing? Or do we still need to consider RF testing, communication theory, conditions that promote unintentional radiation?

Certification of a CC2510DK-MINI based product

June 23rd, 2010

Does the certification needs to be done with the radio in it’s product case ? Or can it be run only on the radio board without any casing? I would say that the radio needs to be in it’s case, since that would influence the radio transmitting power?

Wireless Protocols

June 8th, 2010

I’ve heard of Dash-7 and Ipv6/6LoWPAN, but neither seems to have much penetration … yet, and I’m not clear how the capabilities compare to the proprietary or “large” offerings?

Server Construction

June 1st, 2010

I am trying to construct a server whereby it can be able to receive information and detect the location of a particular wireless signal.

I have a product which is worn on the hand of a person. It is suppose to be able to detect the pulse rate of the particular person and if this pulse rate exceed the “critical pulse rate” set in the program, it will transmit a signal through wireless to the server. The server would then tell the location at which this signal is send from and show the information of the person.

Propagation of different frequencies

May 26th, 2010

I am developing a project where we need to track mining equipment in underground mine shafts. The problem is GPS obviously doesn’t work underground so our solution is to use small stationary transmitters embedded in the walls of the shafts and with each trackable piece of equipment carrying a receiver we record the time and ID of a transmitter.

Project Management Basics – The Technology Development Project Plan

May 13th, 2010

Every time you develop or deploy new technology that takes more than a month to implement you should manage the project using a project management process. A project management process helps you understand the risks, costs and time line before you start. Creating a project plan is the first step in the process.

32.000MHz Crystal for CC2430

May 11th, 2010

My company have designed and are now manufacturing circuits using the CC2430 in a similar circuit to the reference design. Quantities are still relatively small (runs of 500 – 1000) but we are having great difficulty sourcing the 32MHz NX3225SA crystal at the 10/15/30/16 spec.

Sensor passive detection

April 30th, 2010

We have a need to limit travel on a rope being retrieved onto a drum through a pulley. We need to mount a passive non powered sensor or tag of some type onto the rope and be able to detect it within a range of 1 mtr.

We have enquired about RFID but these are typically a computer controlled solution, all we want is a “yes the tag is in range” signal to a PLC to stop the motor on the winch.

Is the Inverted F Antenna Design appropriate for CC 2530?

April 30th, 2010

Is the design in DN0007 appropriate for use with the CC2530? It says that the antenna can be “used with all 2.4 GHz transceivers” but does not include the CC2530 in the list of keywords.

Zigbee over Wifi for home entertainment?

April 30th, 2010

My Wifi signal seems to be intermittent in certain areas of my house, so I am seeking an alternative.

I like Zigbee due to its mesh network topology. I assume it would work well for high noise areas, which is the most critical for me. Anyone work with Zigbee for factories or other high interference locations?

For the record, I am connecting all devices ultimately to a 20mbps Internet connection from RCN.

Has running a CNC machine wirelessly ever been successfully achieved with a similar error rate that wired machines experience?

April 30th, 2010

Has running a CNC machine wirelessly every been successfully achieved with a similar error rate that wired machines experience? In other words, wireless with no error in an industrial environment. And I am referring to the connection between the actual CNC equipment and the PCs that drive them.

I have seen this attempted with dismal results. And following the failure, a football field’s length of Ethernet cable was strung to the ceiling. But with Zigbee, Wireless-N, and others, there has to be a decent solution by now?
